Ghostly visitors

Background

I’ve always been interested in the supernatural, ever since I saw a ghost in my teens. Waking one morning I saw a man sat on the end of my bed pulling on his boots. It was so clear I could see his face tight lipped and straining as he pulled at his boot. Dressed in a top hat and a tailed coat he slowly faded into the background of my room. Since then I’ve always been curious about these things and luckily my family has shared my interest. We’ve visited many haunted locations so I thought I would share what in my opinion are the best.

Woodchester Mansion

1) Woodchester mansion

WoodchesterMansion is an unfinished, mansion house located in WoodchesterPark near Nymsfield in Gloucestershire. It was formerly known as Spring Park. The Mansion was abandoned by its builders in the middle of construction, leaving behind a building that appears complete from the outside, but with floors, plaster and whole rooms missing inside. It has remained in this state since the mid-1870s.  By a mile this place SO creepy and I’ve had so much happen to me here. My bag has been tugged, cold breezes from no where. A black feather once floated up in front my eyes circled around then fell flat to the ground. Every time we’ve taken a photo there are orbs.

2) Farleigh Hungerford castle

Farleigh Hungerford Castle at Farleigh Hungerford near Norton St Philips, Somerset, England was built around 1370 Now this place had a few surprises at first things were how they should be. It wasn’t until we entered the chapel that things got interesting.  First the air was clammy and the silence was heavy.  We felt unwelcome but tip toed slowly on, there was a very ornate tomb I decided to take a photo, my batteries were flat.  I asked my daughter to take on, her batteries were also flat.  My husband volunteered to go back to the car and get some fresh ones.  While he was gone I began to feel sick, even though he was only gone about 2 minutes on his return I felt weak and shivery.  I took 2 photos with the new batteries, before they went flat and went home and slept for three hours.

3) The George Inn Norton Saint Phillips

The George Inn lies about six miles south-east of Bath, in the village of Norton St. PhilipThis place has a creep factor of 10.  The eyes of the portraits on the wall follow you around the room, while there is an atmosphere that you can’t quite describe. Footsteps behind me were my experience here.  Not a lot on its own but combined with the rest, a good fright.

4) Berry Pomeroy castle

Berry Pomeroy is about two miles east of Totness.  Nice lots of orbs here, some very large especially on the stairs. The ghost here is the white lady maybe it was her energy on the stairs-who knows.

I wondered where you were going for a minute with that bloke putting his boots back on at the bottom of your bed, that was really scary. But yes some of those old buildings in the UK reek of Ghostly deeds or misdeeds. I'm keeping the light on tonight. Cheers

Some of the photos were blurry and some were blank which was odd. Thanks for commenting SilverGenes nice to know someone else that likes a ghost story

I do love a good ghost story and you certainly delivered! Farleigh Hungerford sounds downright dangerous and I'm glad you got out of there relatively unscathed. How did your photos turn out? The mists are interesting - I have one of an old cemetary that looked normal until I printed it in black and white. That's when the mist appeared. Good scary stuff!

Great idea for an article! I'm a huge fan of Ghost Hunters so I'm always interested in peoples' accounts of paranormal activity. It's also a great opportunity to show off some local flare for people overseas.

With centuries of horrific events I can only imagine the possiblities of haunted locations one might encounter there.

Great photos. Yes that looks to be a dog to me, too.
